About
The Warner Textile Archive holds England’s second-largest collection of flat textiles and narrates the history of a great British industry from its local roots to global recognition.
The Collection combines an extensive part of the business and design archives of Warner & Sons, as well as smaller collections of textiles and paper designs purchased by this internationally-renowned company for design inspiration.
With around 100,000 items, including over 60,000 paper designs, photographs, rulepapers, printing blocks, ledgers, hand-woven silks and printed textiles, the Archive Collection documents nearly 500 years of design history.
Located in Warner & Sons’ original Grade II listed textile mill in Braintree, the Archive Gallery illustrates the variety of design and craftsmanship for which Warner & Sons became famous. There is a selection of items from the Archive on display including textiles, paper designs and original documents.
The Archive Gallery is open every Wednesday and on the first Saturday of the month, 10am to 4pm.
Pre-booked group visits are welcomed, and include an introductory talk and, if requested, a tour of the Archive Store. Refreshments can also be provided. Please phone 01376 316780 for further details.
